There was however still one shadow on our bliss: the unsolved matter of my wife's extra-marital encounters and my attitude towards them, which continued to nag me. But by researching the matter on the internet, I learned that it was not uncommon for monogamous husbands to acquiesce in their spouses having someone on the side, and to love them no less for it. It finally dawned on me that there is nothing shameful or abnormal about remaining faithful to a loving wife who takes on other lovers.

Then quite recently my new conviction was strengthened by the excellent article "The Science of Cuckoldry", by sex therapist & relationships counselor Dr Susan Gower. In my opinion, Dr. Gower has the merit of not merely stating, but also of proving once and for all that married women have a genuine need for extra-marital sex whereas their husbands do not! In contrast with their wives, they are motivated by competition and will lose interest in new sex partners shortly after having conquered them. So if a husband has a sexually liberated wife, why wouldn't he focus on her and prove his worthiness of her anytime she gets back from a sexual encounter, rather than complicating his own and his partner's life by striving for affairs of his own???
