For those submissive顺从 — willing to obey men who saw this movie back when it was originally released, one can imagine how they were probably undergoing the same emotions Baxter was. Let us consider for a moment that in 1977 D&S was not widely discussed as it is today. This was a time before the Internet, HBO, DDI or any of the open media we take for granted today. Precious little communication was being discussed about these sorts of activities and to find like-minded people could be likened to finding a pearl in an oyster.

And discovering a mainstream movie to broach this subject was also rare indeed. We can only imagine how startled one was when they happened upon this movie at this period in time. But in true Hollywood fashion they went for the shock value and portrayed the Domme女主人 — a dominant woman, as one officer referred to her, “a scum sucking freak”, and Baxter as a “pervert”.

Foxy was not a scum sucking freak at all. In fact, to Baxter she represented the total opposite of the other women in his life. This woman exhibited control and she demanded to be reimbursed well for her services. She refused to play the victim like the other women in the movie and because of this Baxter was fascinated by her and that is what drew him to her.

Sadly, by the end of the movie Baxter experiences a tragic ending, not because of Foxy but because of his inability to face his male peers.
