History of Female Domination Magazines: 1970 - Present

Screen 5 of 22

As a starting point, lets start where we left off last issue, with Lenny Burtman. Leonard Burtman was one of the pioneers of the FemDom女性支配 — female domination magazine in the 1950’s and 1960’s. His main publication was “Bizarre Life” which was published from 1964 to 1971. In 1972, Burtman moved to California following a prison sentence of several months due to obsentity charges related to his magazines. Prior to his move to California, Burtman joined forces with Reuben Sturman, owner of the adult publication/distribution network World-Wide News Corporation.

Sturman, the son of immigrant Russian Jews, grew up on Cleveland's East Side. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and then went on to study at Western Reserve University, graduating in 1948, before starting his own business selling comic books from his car. By the late 1950's his business had swelled to a major wholesale magazine company with affiliates in several American cities. During the 1960s Sturman started selling magazines with sexual content, a product he discovered could make profits that outmatched anything that could be achieved by selling any kind of comic book. By the late 1960s Sturman was the biggest distributor of adult magazines in the US.
