Seven years ago I married one of my close collaborators. He is handsome but I think what I found more attractive was that he was a very respected professional and very good at his job, while at the same time very collaborative, friendly, and gentle. When we started our relationship, there was absolutely no doubt about how deeply in love he had fallen with me. There was also little doubt about how much he desired me and it was obvious that he would do anything I asked him... and I did ask.

Although I was the dominant member of the couple, our relationship was not an overt female dominated one. One day his macho male ego overpowered him and this led to unplanned changes. I happened to overhear his colleagues teasing him about my assertiveness as they teased that I would wear the pants in our marriage. His response stating that although I was the boss at work, at home he would be the ruler and, of course, he would wear the pants. Later that day, I confronted him about this. He said it was only men talking, joking, and making some silly comments. I did not accept his excuses. I asked him what would he have thought if I had stated and boasted in front of all his male and female colleagues, that I planned to be the boss in the marriage and furthermore that I planned to be the one responsible for the decision-making. In other words, I would wear the pants.
