We were married on New Years Eve 2000. It was a small wedding only my father attended from my side of the family and a couple of friends, but no one really picked up that my marriage vows were to “Love Honor and Obey”. It was a feminist marriage and a few eyebrows were raised when I changed my surname to Fiona’s. It’s rare but it isn’t unusual I told anyone who asked why. Fiona had demanded it, and it was a condition of getting married, and I wanted to marry Fiona more than anything, so if changing my name to hers was what it cost, it was cheap price to pay.
