Real Stories - November 2021

Screen 14 of 45

Recently, our youngest child left home to go to college and we were alone together for the first time in over 20 years. I wrote Alison a letter apologizing unreservedly for my behavior, and acknowledging that it was all my fault. I asked her forgiveness. I hoped that we might begin again….on her terms, I would accept her decision in all things. I made solemn promises about how I’d behave from now on and what she could expect from me. I listed the household jobs that she could rely on me to do routinely. She took a little while to think this over, than agreed to try strictly on her terms.
