Ms Kathleen's Movie Review

Screen 3 of 4

For a film shot in 1976 I thought it was well executed and very contemporary. The acting was genuine and I particularly enjoyed Gerard Depardieu’s performs as I have been a fan of his for years. The plot took lots of twists and turns which kept me guessing how it was all going to turn out. For instance, who was this mysterious Gautier and what kind of strangle-hold did he have on Arian? Was Olivier going to overcome his jealousy and be able to live in harmony with Arian’s chosen profession? Would Arian dump her career to run away with Olivier? You will have to watch to find out how it all unfolds.

Of particular interest to me was the dual nature of Arian in that she obviously enjoyed dominating people of all kinds and yet could be very submissive顺从 — willing to obey in her love life. I believe she answered that best during an argument with Olivier when she told him that her clients do not scare her but that he (Olivier) does because she loves him. I think she was saying that love makes us all vulnerable and so in essence, love dominates us all.
