Renew for 2007

In the December 2005 issue of Predominant, I reviewed the Las Vegas off-strip show, “The Fashionistas”. I came to learn about that show from a ubiquitous magazine found in every room on or near the strip called “What’s On”. The show had an S&M theme and plenty of fetish恋物 — a strong sexual focus on one thing-oriented imagery, and I was highly impressed with the show’s performers, props and choreography because it didn’t have the bigger budget, name or location as some of the other more popular Vegas shows.

In October I was once again doing my thing in Sin City and I caught another Vegas show that I think is worthy of review in Predominant, only this one is performed by a troupe most have all come to know, Cirque du Soleil. The show is entitled “Zumanity” and is in its third year at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino.

So what is Zumanity? Called “a provocative exhibition of human sensuality, arousal and eroticism” it has other names such as “the human zoo” and “the other side of Cirque du Soleil”. I call it an American attempt at seduction which at times hits and at other times misses.

From what I understand, Zumanity has been changed from its original show three years ago and the overall consensus is that the show is much better today, although some of the more controversial acts were eliminated in order for the show to appeal to a more mainstream audience.
