Knowledge is wonderful but it needs to be balanced with spirituality. God is the architect of creation so while searching for knowledge, mankind needed that close intimate walk with God. God desires fellowship just like parents take joy in their children. Children learn from their creator (i.e. parents) and God wanted humankind to learn from its Creator. Adam and Eve lost that intimacy with God because they relied on their own ability and their own intellect. Instead of following God’s plan for their lives, they decided to forge their own way in the world and the result of this selfish decision was that all of the world became cursed.

That is why woman was brought down under the control of man. It was a curse but it was the result of her losing her authority. Her authority came from God. As mankind strayed away from God, mankind was less influenced by the love of God. Thus man began to do evil. Don’t forget the name of the tree. It was the knowledge of good and evil. Knowledge not only brings good but it brings evil (war, pride, greed, etc). As evil increased, the pride of man evolved and the male ego brought a curse on the world. Male aggression overcame loving female authority. God called sin “the lust of the eyes (greed), the lust of the flesh (unhealthy indulgence) and the boastful pride of life”. This was the harmful and deadly fruit of the tree of knowledge, not an apple.
