A. I don’t care if you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent or Libertarian, you have to appreciate and recognize the sociological significance of a woman being third in line to the Presidency. Remove the politics from this for a minute. I posted in my “Mainstream Articles” section an article addressing this momentous event. I love what Speaker Pelosi had to say;
"For our daughters and our granddaughters, today we have broken the marble ceiling."
And I also loved it when Rep. Maxine Waters of California cast her vote to elect Ms Pelosi as Speaker in honor of Feminist icons Bella Abzug and Gloria Steinem.
Some men smirk and laugh it off when I talk about societal evolution and where society is headed. Let them ignore it all they want but that doesn’t change what is true. It is happening right before our eyes, and there is more evidence every year. Someone recently pointed out to me that there is an entry in the Q&A archives where I talk about there being nine US Senators but now there are thirteen. That post was from 2002 so in 4 years the US Senate went from 9 women to 13. And now the Speaker of the House is a woman. Plus, look at all the new female Governors and Mayors over the past decade that have been elected. And of course, there is a lot of talk of the potential of the first female President in 2008.
