Most people can have a social drink of alcohol without ever becoming an alcoholic. That is why alcohol is served in countless restaurants, bars and lounges. To the alcoholic, all of these places are a temptation. Should society ban alcohol? To do so would be to take away freedom from the masses, who do not have an addiction to alcohol. The same goes for gambling. Most people can frequent a Casino and play some slot machines or play some table games without ever becoming a compulsive gambler. But then there are those people who get hooked and they ruin their lives and it is sad and tragic. But should society ban all forms of gambling? And even if it did, would the temptation cease? When there was prohibition people still drank. When gambling was illegal in most states, people still gambled, be it Bingo, a game of Poker or betting on sports. The compulsive gambler will always find his fix, just as the compulsive drinker will always find his booze, and the man who has a compulsion for pornography will always find a sexual picture, photo, or story to engage his lust. The cure is not in banning the so-called vice. The cure can only be found within.
