I often feel though that if religion is to last a lot longer it will have to deal with the terrible legacy of Genesis. You talk a little about Genesis in your book but not too much about that awful fall of mankind story.

I have a view on it and in a nutshell, it says Genesis 3 came into being because men understood very well the difference between the male and female orgasm高潮 — the sexual climax and rather than rejoicing at that, blamed women for everything they felt had gone wrong in their world. Terrible, terrible.

I have written something about it. Why did MEN invent the story of the Fall? A long time ago men had become self conscious and discovered the hell of the world. They also discovered their lust. This thing - indispensable to their creation but which made fools of them. A desire so strong, they would murder for passion or beg for release like slaves奴隶 — a person kept in total obedience. A passion that the moment it was spent said "Now what was all that about - What a silly fuss over nothing".

Men discovered their passion made fools of them in a way women seemed exempt from. Men were jealous. At the same time, they were STRONGER, Women were at home in pain with child.

In those circumstances, inventing the Fall to blame women for what men felt unable to manage, except in brutal repression, was totally credible.

Can we not do better now?

A. Thanks for the kind words about my book. I love hearing how you and your wife read it together. It is simple practices such as that which can build those strong bonds of intimacy.
