Every time I read any one of those articles that state how there are more women getting college degrees than men, obtaining better grades, graduating with honors, etc., there's at least two questions I ask myself. Question number one is, what alternate career paths are the males taking who have decided that the college route is not for them? Two, is college really necessary to be successful in life? Notice I said, "successful in life". Because though it is necessary to have a degree to become a physician, a dentist, a social worker or an attorney, one can become successful, wealthy and powerful with out one. Michael Dell and Bill Gates come to mind. Both happen to be male and are not college graduates. Those articles just don't answer those questions and assume that society will be flooded with uneducated men with low paying, dead end jobs.
There's many other career choices that offer wonderful opportunities for males (and females!) who do not choose the college degree path. A journeyman plumber or electrician can earn more money than a four year graduate and easily as much as a master degree holder. Unlike what several of the authors of those articles say, I don't believe that women will automatically have to look forward to dating or marrying men with no future just because they don't have a college degree.
