A. Jeannie and Samantha of “Bewitched” were the objects of adolescent fantasies of boys (as well as grown men) because they appealed to the male submissive顺从 — willing to obey nature. These women were more powerful than their mortal male love-interests and these women could do whatever they pleased and the men were at their mercy. If these supernatural ladies refrained from using their powers (like Major Nelson and husband Darren wanted) it was purely by the woman’s choice, but should they decide to use their powers, the men had no control of the situation and they were at the woman’s mercy. In these shows, the women are all powerful and the men were weak because they were only mortal.
