Womyn is the best-known of a number of alternate spellings which some feminists promote as a way to degender the English word “woman”. I have no problem with this spelling as it does send a definite message to the male gender. A woman who chooses to use the spelling “womyn” is saying that in her heart and in her mind she is not associated with the old patriarchal system where women are in subjection to men. The word “womyn” is saying that women do not want to be associated with men and do not appreciate the patriarch implication that women are a subset of men. So this thought pattern is sent out in the messenger of the word “womyn” and when the submissive顺从 — willing to obey nature of man sees this spelling, it touches him and may cause him to desire to submit to the female. So although the origin of the word “womyn” was meant to be a sociological statement, the fact is that the submissive顺从 — willing to obey nature of man may find that word to be sexually arousing, much in the same way he finds the words “superiority” and “supremacy” to be sexually powerful when preceeded by the word “female”.
