The biggest barrier for women to overcome will be the barrier of religion. A lot of women are oppressed and accept being treated as second-class citizens because they have been taught that it is the will of God. This is very difficult to overcome. But it can be overcome and it has been in the United States. The United States is a very religious nation with an entire region known as the Bible belt. Americans are enlightened but they are still very religious. Yet, most American women have overcome the patriarchal mindset that women should be treated as second-class citizens. It was not easy and it took time but once women had the revelation that one could be spiritual and a good Christian and live a life pleasing to God, and still be a liberated woman, that was the death blow to the patriarchal system in the United States. Now women view their freedom, freewill and independence as a gift and a right from God. Some women still choose to live by old patriarchy traditions in their church and in their home, but it is their personal choice and not mandated by society. Most women embrace their liberation and more and more women are beginning to embrace their female power.
