We see authority in every walk of life. The Government has authority in many areas over our lives (which bothers me as a Libertarian but it is still a fact that there has to be authority to keep law and order in a civilized society). I am sure on your job you see authority everyday with bosses and supervisors and directors and managers and chief operating officers and presidents and vice-presidents and a board of directors. These people may all be equal in the eye of the law but within the corporate world they are not equal when it comes to authority. Disrespect and disobey your boss and you will probably be fired.
Then there is the marriage relationship. Most religions teach that the husband is in authority over the wife. Many people in the Christian church believe that the husband is the head of the wife. So the same church that teaches equality will also teach women that they must submit to their husbands. Funny how religious people seem to accept this but somehow they struggle when the roles are reversed. You are a perfect example of this, which is not a criticism but rather it demonstrates how women have been brained-washed by religion. The doctrine of spiritual authority and equality works as long as the man is the head but somehow if the woman is the head the church gets bent out of shape.
