She entered the dark world of the Leather Bar Scene in San Francisco during the 1980's. A gay male friend saw her interest in leather and motorcycles. She was captivated by the powerful looking edge that wearing leather gave the people who wore it.

Verushka’s first taste was the night her friend successfully slipped her past the doorman at 'The Arena', a popular gay leather bar. She was cross-dressed as a slender "gay male" totally in leathers.

“I really felt at home in a scene that was unknown to the straight world of the mainstream. I knew immediately that the costume and discreet behavior were tickets to acceptance.”

Her friend introduced her to the doyenne of San Francisco Dominatrixes女支配者 — a dominant woman, Cynthia Slater. Cynthia started 'The Society of Janus' for the kinky underground, and Verushka came to work at her house and learned the ropes, so to speak, of conducting sessions.
