Ms Kathleen's Movie Review
Screen 2 of 8
Mrs. Robinson: Well, I don't know.
Ben: For God's sake, Mrs. Robinson, here we are, you've got me into your house. You give me a drink. You put on music, now you start opening up your personal life to me and tell me your husband won't be home for hours.
Mrs. Robinson: So?
Ben (naively): (The camera shoots under her upraised leg, framing Ben underneath) Mrs. Robinson - you are trying to seduce me .... Aren't you?
Mrs. Robinson: Well, no. I hadn't thought of it. I feel very flattered.
Ben: Mrs. Robinson. Will you forgive me for what I just said?
And with that one scene the stage is set for the rest of the movie. In fact, right after this scene Benjamin doesn’t leave the house but instead is lured upstairs by Mrs. Robinson to see a recent portrait of her daughter.
As Benjamin looks up at the portrait, Mrs. Robinson begins to undress and asks for his assistance. Once again the dialogue turns awkward while Benjamin fumbles to find the true meaning behind her actions. He hesitates to help her but eventually does after mentioning that anyone walking in on them might get the wrong impression. She asks if he thinks she is trying to seduce him again and before he can barely answer she asks him “Would you like me to seduce you?”
