Ms Kathleen's Movie Review
Screen 7 of 8
Mrs. Robinson could have been bored with life in suburbia and was in need of a little excitement. She possibly was in need of a younger man who she could control not only sexually but psychologically as when they met that first time for drinks.
Mrs. Robinson: Did you get us a room?
Benjamin: What?
Mrs. Robinson: Have you gotten us a room yet?
Benjamin: I haven't, no.
Mrs. Robinson: Do you want to?
Benjamin: Well, I don't...I mean I could. Or we could just talk.
Mrs. Robinson: Do you want me to get it?
Benjamin: You? Oh no, I'll get it.
Mrs. Robinson: Do you want to get it now?
Benjamin: Now?
Mrs. Robinson: Yes.
Benjamin: Well, I don't know.
Mrs. Robinson: Why don't you get it?
Benjamin: 'Why don't I get it?' Well, I will, and if you'll excuse me.
As we see from the above scene and even the previous ones, Mrs. Robinson takes calm delight in watching Benjamin squirm. She is at once supremely confident of her sexual power and mercilessly casual in the face of Benjamin’s adolescent fear of her. I liken it unto a cat playing with a mouse who is amused at watching it toil away until it can no longer resist and eventually succumbs to its natural fate or being prey to something or someone more clever than itself.
