Ms Kathleen's Movie Review
Screen 6 of 6
I found this film to be extremely entertaining. When I first saw it I knew nothing about Ed Wood and the fact that he enjoyed dressing in women’s clothing. I was surprisingly shocked to learn about it and the casual nature with which he announced it as if it was the most natural thing in the world. While directing a scene dressed in an angora sweater and skirt he’s asked “Are you a homosexual?”. “No. I’m a transvestite”. He replies cheerfully.
At the heart of the movie run the themes of acceptance, redemption and friendship which are easily translatable to any generation of movie goers.
And then there’s the movie’s black and white photography convincingly recapturing the look and feel of 1950’s sleaze, including some of the least convincing special effects in movie history. Being a fan of old, old movies I sometimes prefer watching movies in black and white. There is a nostalgic touch reminiscent of my childhood that takes me back when I watch them.
Whether you are a cross-dresser or not, or if you just enjoy entertaining movies, this one is a must-see.
I should mention that ‘Glen or Glenda’ is now available in DVD format from dvdempire.com for $19.43 and a collection of Ed Wood’s movies (to include ‘Glen or Glenda’ in DVD format) from deepdiscountdvd.com for $29.25. Both sites also carry ‘Ed Wood’ for a reasonable price.
