Nicole’s friend drew up the papers where I agreed to give all control of our assets to my wife because of my “irresponsibility”. Basically it is a contract about trust, where one person trusts their spouse more than they trust themselves. The premise of the contract is false because I don’t have a drug or alcohol problem and I am not a compulsive gambler. But as long as I signed the papers, I was saying that I viewed myself as being “irresponsible” and that I was willing to give up my usual rights that accompany a “responsible” married spouse. There was actually a hearing before a Judge (which really scared me). Nicole’s friend did all the talking and the Judge asked me if I understood what I was doing. I was not forced to sign, but I did it because I wanted to experience giving my wife full control. The end result is, I was deemed incompetent and Nicole was given legal guardianship over me. I'll never forget the feeling walking out of court that day knowing that, at 27 years old, I had given my wife control of everything, including my paycheck. I was totally at her mercy and now she could get a legal divorce at anytime just by claiming that I did not live up to my end of the agreement. And if she did this, she would own everything.
