I am not comparing intelligent human beings to an elephant but this analogy does demonstrate the effect of psychological slavery and it reveals the awesome power of the mind. The moral of this analogy is that no matter what your potential may be, if you don’t realize your own potential, you will never achieve your potential. And sometimes it takes others to encourage us in order for us to meet our potential.

For many generations, in some societies women have been programmed since they were young girls that they are inferior. This mindset has existed and been reinforced for thousands of years. Such a mindset is not overcome with one, two or three generations. Such a mindset is overcome one person at a time and a society is changed one person at a time.

Women are liberated in the United States and in western civilization but it was not always so. In fact, you only have to go back a few generations to find women being treated as second-class citizens in the United States. Female liberation and female empowerment is still in its infancy. But as the cigarette ad from the 1970’s said, “she’s come a long ways, baby!” And I might add, in a relatively short period of time.
