Real Stories - October 2005
Screen 13 of 25
It always saddens me when a Preacher uses fear to get people to walk the “straight and narrow”. Telling her that she would face eternal damnation if she had sex outside of marriage or if she masturbated was manipulation through fear. Instead, I wish Pastors would tell someone to view their bodies as a Temple and to honor God by respecting themselves and their bodies. That is positive as well as being scriptural. Fear will only work temporarily but Faith is eternal. Shelly has a conscience and the spirit of God is capable of teaching her right from wrong as she reads the scriptures and prays. I am sure her Pastor was doing what he believed was his duty, but to be a Pastor is to be a Shepard and his calling is to teach baby Christians how to develop their own personal walk with God, not casting condemnation on someone.
Shelly was a sexual woman and she was trying to please God by refraining but her sexuality was still permeating from her, that is why she wanted to get married. Her sexuality was in check by her morality but she wanted to unleash it and marriage is the ground where she could be morally free to unleash it. I hope she met a worthy man.
